of remorse from jerry sandusky just hours before he's sentenced for sexually abusing children while he was at penn state. the former assistant football coach recorded an audio statement from his jail cell. in it he maintains he's innocent. he says his victims are liars and blames his conviction on a well ork straight conspiracy involving the victims, the cops, penn state and the press. >> they can take away my life, treat me as a monster but they can't take away my heart. in my heart, i know i did not do these alleged disgusting acts. >> he also imglies he's going to appeal his conviction, but appeal or not, a judge will sentence sandusky tomorrow on those 45 separate child sexual abuse charges. that sentence could exceed 400 years behind bars. and you can hear more of sandusky's statement. go to our website, wusa9.com, and be sure to join us tomorrow when andrea mccarren will be at the sentencing and bring us all the reaction. when you get on the metro

the controversial ads are hitting metro stations here. the woman behind them equally controversial blogger, pamela gellar. >> the ads were submitted because they were antiisrael ads running in the metro transit authority so our ads are submitted as a counter to those anti-israel ads. >> i think it's provocative in a bad way. >> it certainly makes you stop and think. >> probably emotional. emotions will be sparked by it. >> defend racism. >> reporter: while this woman, an egyptian born journalist may have taken her defense a little too far, some say this ad could spark more than spray paint. >> i have been many acts of vandalism and violence against muslims, and these happen because of the hate speech and intolerance against american muslims, and we believe that these kind of ads promote these

>> reporter: a lot went wrong tonight. it started on the mound. jordan zimmerman got the start and in five regular season games he has yet to win one of them against the cardinals. not the greatest of stats to take into today's playoff game. jordan zimmerman lasted a season-low three innings. he gave up seven hits and three runs in the process. zimmerman wasn't the only problem on the mound. the nats shuffled out seven different pitchers today and in all they gave up 12 runs. the cardinals crushed the nats 12-4. our dave owens has been in st. louis the past few days covering the nationals angle. tonight he slips the script a little bit. what do st. louis fans think of the nats phenomenon? it turns out they've got a little advice for us washingtonians when it comes to baseball. >> we're from washington, d.c. we're following the nationals. and we're asking some questions. >> did you ever think you would be playing the washington nationals? >> no. >> right? >> no.

good advice there. i'm sure a lot of national fans already taking them up on that advice. dave will bring us the players reaction to game two loss a little later in sports. plus we look ahead to the first- ever playoff game in nationals park history. derek? a little more sports news tonight, encouraging news about redskins quarterback rg3. coach mike shanahan is optimistic that griffin will play on sunday against minnesota despite that concussion he got yesterday. as everybody knows by now, griffin took a hit that shook the whole redskins nation. he was knocked out of the game in the third quarter as the team was losing to atlanta. diagnosis, mild concussion. griffin has been undergoing tests and doctors will monitor him all week long. shanahan says as of now things are looking up. >> he's feeling good. no dizziness, no headaches, no vomiting. he feels like he's done well on the tests that he's taken thus far. >> no dizziness, no headaches, no vomiting. that's what we want to hear.

griffin will undergo a treadmill test tomorrow. shanahan does say if there are any set books along the way, kirkusens or rex grossman will be at quarterback on saturday. >> how do intelligencists beige -- how do specialists gauge? they look at it hours and days later. it's mild traumatic brain injuries that won't necessarily show up on a ct scan or an mri but damage from repeat concussions adds up especially if the brain doesn't have enough time to heal. >> if the head injury is repeated over and over again, it's going to have an impact not only on short-term but long- term basis. so it's important to pick up on that. really you need time. the basis of deciding when a person returns to this sport is when they return back to their normal state. >> the doctor also says the amount of time a person blacks

out at impact and how much memory they lose, these are key indicators to how severe the concussion is. a new poll is out tonight showing mitt romney ahead in the race for president. all this following last thursday's debate. according to the pew research center, 49% of likely voters are favoring romney. 45% like president obama. just last month, romney was trailing obama by 9 points and of course, as we just mentioned, now he's ahead. romney told cadets at the virginia military institute he will strengthen america's defense as commander-in-chief. he also said president obama s failed to lead on the world stage, especially in the middle east. >> it's clear that the risk of conflict in the region is higher now than when the president took office. >> romney said he would work to stablize the new government in libya and egypt and help to arm syrian rebels trying to overthrow the regime.

>> as long as i am commander-in- chief we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. >> neither of the presidential candidates or their running mates served in the military. this is the first election in which that's happened in some 80 years. in richmond tonight, a debate between republican george allen and democrat tim kane, both hoping to become georgia's junior senator. they took shots at each other's past performance as governor but when it comes to washington, they agree on one thing, they can fix what's wrong with congress. >> frankly we have a ball and chain, and that's congress. congress is holding us back. what we need to do is change congress, especially in two ways. we need people who are more fiscally responsible and more people who know frankly the basics about how to work together. >> if i have the honor of being your senator, i'm going to give all my energies working with people in both parties to create jobs and get america ascending once again.

>> recent polls show kane has a slim lead right now. the candidates are scheduled for one more debate before the november election. a very sad end to a search for a missing fairfax teenager. bryan glenn, the team found his body in dice park. no word from the cops on whether or not this was an apparent suicide or a case of foul play. he had been missing for a week. he was last seen at his school, woodson high. grief counselors will be available to students and staff there tomorrow. and tonight, we've learned a maryland man died while trying to help a woman. 83-year-old richard harris was traveling to maine with his two sons on a hunting trip. around 2:00 this morning, they came across a crash in hartford. a woman lost control and flipped her suv. heron was trying to direct traffic. when he saw a tractor-trailer driving at him, he jumped a rail and fell 35 feet and was

disturbing new details about the failure rate for those tsa airport searches. any of us that fly have to suv through. >> a confidential internal memo say at least one airport they're missing far more oversized gels and liquids than they're catching. they renamed newark liberty. now comes word in a secret worth from the tsa itself that it's newark screeners are failing to do what the they are

supposed to do to keep america safe. john is a law professor at g.w. >> 234eu of my students who get less than 75, i'll fail them. here the tsa itself says its agents failed 85, in me cases 100% of the time. everybody should be scared and outraged. >> reporter: the tsa's secret shoppers found screeners caught prohibited items and took appropriate action less than 25% of the time. that they followed proper pat- down procedures less than 17% of the time, and that they failed 100% of the time to tell people that they could opt out of a full body scan and go with a pat-down. >> all the terrorist have to do is get through once. >> reporter: the tsa has lately been experimenting with something it calls behavioral detection, instead of a physical pat down it's like a

verbal chat down. he says this report proves it is a giant waste of time. >> the idea that they're going to be trained to look for my micro expression or tremor in my voice because i'm a terrorist, that's crazy. >> reporter: the newark inveigation is the only one leaked publicly so far. but if it's that bad at newark, a lot of people worry about failures at other airports, too. bruce leshan, 9 news now. >> a tsa spokeswoman says the agency constantly evaluates its workers in the effort to improve performance. in tonight's health alert, the number of people sick by a deadly meningitis outbreak now hitting 105. 8 have died. most of the cases are in virginia, tennessee and michigan. also some cases in maryland. doctors expect the numbers to grow over the next few weeks because there's an incubation period. all the patients got fungal meningitis from steroid injections from pain. all right, caught on tape,

two brides, one brawl. a fight broke out between two wedding parties at a downtown philadelphia hotel over the weekend. >> that fight not only ruined two weddings but may have led to one death. >> reporter: the all-out brawl erupted just before 2:00 a.m. sunday morning at the sheraton society hill hotel in philadelphia. when police arrived they found nearly 100 people from two different wedding parties going at it in the lobby bar. at one point, officers used batons to try to pull two men off each other. one man gets tossed to the ground. and in the middle of the melee, a woman in a long dress can be seen falling to the floor. >> did they just deck the bride? >> reporter: 15-year-old matt who was in town with his family captured the chaotic scene on his cell phone. >> they started punching each other and hitting each other. the police came in and started clubbing people. >> reporter: several people were injured. one man believed to be the

uncle of one of the brides suffered a heart attack and died at a local hospital. in a statement sunday, the sheraton hotel said, we continue to cooperate with authorities. our sincerest condolences go out to the family for their loss. police haven't said what caused the fight, but they believe alcohol played a role. >> the sheraton couldn't really do much. it was out of their hands. there were too many people, probably had too much to drink. it was bedlam. >> reporter: following thescuffle, at least three people were taken into custody, but authorities are reviewing the tape to see if more arrests need to be made. for cbs this morning, new york. >> a rough outing indeed. 15-year-old max was actually celebrating his own birthday when he captured the video of that fight. his mama says this is one birthday he will never forget. >> it's just hard to fathom. the cops are there and they still keep brawling. doesn't seem like it would be time. >> beverages. >> beverages are always at the root of most brawls.

>> yeah. >> in my family anyway. a 55 today. that's the average high for this thanksgiving. >> it was chilly. >> it was like november. it is still chilly out there now, exactly. we're looking at kind of november like day tomorrow and then we improve the rest of the week. a live look outside. our michael and son weather cam. churches are truly low -- temperatures are still low 50s downtown. dew point in the mid-40s. the winds are still north/northeast at 10. there will be an easterly component to this wind through tomorrow. these low clouds will be hard to shake, especially south and east of town. latest radar, here's our rain. everything is green. and in most cases light green. it's very light rain. we'll zoom in a little bit. you can see light activity. the west side of 270 in montgomery county, out route 7 and 50. everything is light so some of the roads could be wet tomorrow, especially south and east of town as the showers sink a little farther south and

east overnight. tomorrow, right now we're looking at showers south. tomorrow morning most of the showers kind of into southern maryland. maybe prince george's county and maybe into calvert county and also into st. mary's coun as well. we look at also some activity even into the evening hours down to the south. so clouds are going to be very hard to shake south and east of town. you're up in frederick and hagerstown and martinsburg tomorrow, you'll have a pretty good afternoon, albeit on the chilly side. after that, things really improve for everybody on wednesday and thursday. you still need a jacket on tuesday. the kids, you still need a jacket at the bus stop. most of the showers will be south and east of town. so southern prince george's county, charles county, calvert county, st. mary's county, that area. improving on wednesday. actually a cold front goes through wednesday but ironically it will be a nicer day. thursday much better. perhaps a little bit cooler but a lot more sunshine. drier air finally moves in. for overnight, we'll say mostly cloudy.

light rain showers. temperatures in the 40s. low 40s in the burbs. by morning, mostly cloudy, chilly, showers. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. by afternoon, variable clouds and cool. a few showers possible but most of the showers will be well south and east of town. by variable clouds, some areas will have a little bit of sunshine, especially north and west of town. temperatures 55 to 60. next three days. we'll keep them code green for now. 58 tomorrow. just a few showers. morning showers on wednesday, 69. cold front goes through. doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. then great on thursday. we did lower the temps a little bit, but still great. sunshine and 65, nice day. next seven days. friday nice as well, upper 60s. maybe a shower, no change of plans. look at the weekend, ravens in town, skins in town. 75 on saturday, 80 on sunday

good news first. your nationals are coming back home to d.c. the bad news is, there's no chance of a sweep of the defending champs, so now the nats must win two at home to stay alive. in today's game, jordan zimmerman got the start. we'll start these highlights with him at the plate. two men on, zimmerman sends one to right field. that brings in desmond. he avoids the stop sign at third, slides in safely at home and puts the nats on the board first. here he gives up a home run to alan craig. zimmerman lasted a season-low three innings giving up five runs. here's probably the play of the day. cardal center fielder john day, look at this running back. back's against the wall. saves the extra base hit. a big jump by him. you can see their faces, the cardinals are pumped. they go on to crush the nationals, 12-4 today. the series up at one game

apiece. here's more with dave owens from st. louis. >> reporter: it's supposed to be the strength of the ball club but for the second consecutive day, washington got shaking starting pitching. unlike sunday when geo gonzalez was able to minimize the damage, today jordan zimmerman not so much. >> i wanted to go out and go deep in the game and try to get out of here with two wins. i didn't do my part. >> they kept pouring on runs. we never -- we jumped out ahead 1-0 and that was about the story right there, you know. >> reporter: for the third time in four games, st. louis put double digit runs on the nats. how does washington regain that momentum? they'll be at home, but can this young team get it done in maybe the most pivotal game of the year? >> it's easy to play when they're waving the white towels for you. hopefully if we get home our fans are ready for us, they bring it kind of like they did. >> he's one of the strongest pitchers in the post-season. >> biggest game you guys have had this far? >> probably.
